Big C and SOS Children
Every penny helps

This challenge is all about raising as much money as possible for the Big C and SOS Children.   We’re raising money through various means, not just the ride itself.  We have a great network of friends and family helping us with a pre-ride party and coming home party with auction.

The two charities Jason and Ollie chose are Big C and SOS Children, here’s some more about these fantastic charities.

Big C
Big C Cancer Charity

When cancer threatens someone you love: Big C’s scientists, nurses and the hospitals we equip will give them a fighting chance and hope for the future.

They were formed in 1980 by David Moar and Clive Bamford; two young Norwich men who were forced to travel to London for their cancer treatment. They were determined that people in Norfolk should have local access to the best treatment and care.

Today the dedication of David and Clive is shared by all those connected with Big C. In the thirty years since they were established, over £19 million has been raised, thanks to the magnificent support of our surrounding community. These funds, of approximately £1,000,000 per year of charitable spend, are ploughed into:

  • Cancer equipment in their hospitals and across rural areas (such as the mobile breast screening units taken out to market towns.)
  • Support for those with cancer in the form of nurses, services, and their Centre.
  • Care for those affected by cancer – such as Big C’s Bereavement Group.
  • World-class research carried out by Big C funded scientists.
  • Only in Norfolk & Waveney.
  • Their rainbow represents their four key objectives, mentioned above.

Advances have been significant and continuous. Thank you. Together they are making a HUGE ‘Big Difference’.

SOS Children

SOS Children has two major charity objectives. First, they work very hard to stop more than half a million children ending up alone, abandoned or in institutions. They do this by strengthening families, helping communities, and providing education and healthcare. Secondly, for children who have no other hope of family life, they provide new families for life; these children only have hope thanks to the kindness of child sponsors.

They need your help and support in helping keep families together and in sponsoring children so they can provide family based care for them. Child sponsors have helped make them into the world’s largest orphan and abandoned children’s charity.

Their vision is “a loving home for every child” and have a rather unique approach to sponsorship which they think is the best for children and child sponsors alike. They choose locations where there are many orphaned or abandoned children. They conduct “root cause” research into why this is happening then work outwards from the children in greatest need into the wider community to tackle the reasons.

Child sponsors and donors worldwide provide a new family and home for more than 78,000 children in 518 unique Children’s Villages in 125 countries; they help ten children stay with their own family for every child in an SOS family.
